SHP Stands By Ohio’s “Don’t Cut My Library!” Campaign

In support of the Ohio Library Council and Cincinnati & Hamilton County Public Library‘s call to action, SHP is proud to stand with these organizations in advocating for adequate, appropriate funding for Ohio’s libraries during these unprecedented times.

From the Ohio Library Council:

The House’s state budget proposal eliminates the Public Library Fund (PLF) and replaces it with a line-item appropriation, representing a $100 million cut to library funding compared to Governor DeWine’s budget proposal.

The unprecedented elimination of the Public Library Fund comes at a time when libraries across the state already saw a $27 million shortfall in state funding in 2024. Ohio’s libraries are currently funded at the same level they were in the year 2000, with no adjustment for inflation.

Supporting our public libraries as community treasures aligns with SHP’s foundational belief in the power of our work to break down barriers and create opportunity for all who use and love the places we make.

“Ohio’s public libraries provide a wide range of services that impact our culture, our workforce and our communities,” said Allison McKenzie, Vice President of SHP. “I encourage everyone to make your voice heard and share your story with your legislators about the impact libraries have had on your family. These are unprecedented times for libraries and our urgent support is needed.”
