Managing our most important resource
Our office culture is both dedicated and lighthearted as we believe in achieving the perfect balance of work and play. Our team members are valued at a personal level that reaches far beyond what he or she brings to a project. In each of our offices, you’ll find a wall of pictures highlighting each of our employees and their unique personalities. With acceptance, honesty, trust, passion and humor, our people stay with the firm for a long time. Our firm’s recent recognitions include SHP as a 2023 Early Professional Friendly Firm by AIA, Top Workplace by the Cincinnati Enquirer for 2021 and a Best Places to Work by the Cincinnati Business Courier in 2018.
AIA Early Professional Friendly
We are thrilled that both SHP Cincinnati and SHP Columbus have achieved AIA Early Professional Friendly Firm status! This designation recognizes firms that support opportunities for their early professionals and seeks to encourage new policies and practices that promote innovation, development, and progressive workplaces for future designers.
We understand the value of investing in our team members, and we are dedicated to creating a workplace culture that promotes growth and development. We believe that our young professionals are the future of the industry, and we are committed to providing them with the resources and opportunities they need to succeed. We are proud to be recognized by AIA for our efforts, and we look forward to continuing to cultivate a supportive and inclusive workplace for all of our team members!
Play4Josh Golf Tournament and Scholarship Fund
Being a part of SHP is like being part of a family. Every member is important and has a role to play. In 2014, we suddenly lost a member of our family, Josh Gentry. He was a bright, young mechanical engineer who truly had a “larger than life” personality. His dedication to every project was unmatched, and SHP wanted his legacy in the field to live on.
Therefore, SHP established the Josh Gentry Memorial Scholarship at UC’s College of Engineering & Applied Science. The proceeds for the scholarship are raised at the annual Play4Josh Memorial Golf Tournament at the award-winning Blue Ash Golf Course. Fittingly, the Blue Ash Golf Clubhouse itself serves as its own legacy, as the building’s mechanical and HVAC system was designed by Josh while he was at SHP.
Office Events
SHP takes the wellbeing of our employees very seriously. We value a balance of work and life, as well as making sure we have fun along the way.
From our annual Walking Challenge to a co-ed softball team, we encourage employees to move their bodies. We continually give employees the opportunity to connect with each other through Buddy Lunches, Socials, and Friday Beer Club.
ArtsWave
SHP’s rich history is embedded in the Greater Cincinnati region—and we are proud to give back to our community by advocating for ArtsWave and its dedication to making the creative arts accessible. For over a decade, our firm has led an internal fundraising campaign that not only encourages staff to donate, but also immerses them in our local art culture. Our staff and firm together raised $25,214 for the cause in 2023!
