Employee Spotlight: Gregor Lewis, Design Director
Considerate, Patient, Passionate, Intuitive, Listener.
“I’m most proud of my ability to listen to our clients’ wishes, and create considerate designs that inspire them to invest their energy in the project,” said SHP Design Director, Gregor Lewis.
Gregor is a passionate and highly skilled designer that has accomplished a great deal in his 20+-year career. He is particularly interested in designing radical concepts or for unique locations, such as a revolving vehicle showroom he designed for Volvo trucks or an elementary school on the island of Okinawa, Japan.
Before beginning his career with SHP in 2016, Gregor spent many years working at several established design and architecture firms, which prepared him for the role he fills today. With SHP, Gregor is responsible for creating a vision for the client and the design team that the project will follow. He does this by considering all of the parameters of the project and looking for opportunities to create a building that will inspire people to live, work, and learn better.
“The most exciting part of my work is when I share an idea with a client or team member and they get as excited about the project or idea as I got,” Gregor said. “That’s when I feel like I’m moving in the right direction, and adding value to the project.”
When his career comes to a close, decades down the road, the award-winning designer hopes to have inspired the masses and to have been the best designer he could be.
“After I retire, I hope to say that I was able to bring a higher level of design to communities that didn’t have access to the resources and benefits of good design,” said Gregor. “I take inspiration from everything including other architects, fashion designers, and artists. I hope someone can learn from me and rise to even new heights.”
In his free time, Gregor loves hiking, creating art in nature and renovation projects with his friends. When the weather permits, he finds peace in flying stunt kites and chasing sunsets for photos or by taking his motorcycle out for a ride.
“Most of all, I enjoy sharing this world with my kids, from whom I get inspiration and for whom I try to be an inspiration,” said Gregor.
