Employee Spotlight: Carrie Malatesta, Vice President of Interior Design
Approachable, Supportive, Fun, Passionate, Welcoming.
“Work hard and play hard!” That is the mantra that Carrie Malatesta lives by day-in and day-out.
So let’s start with the work.
Carrie has been with SHP for over 20 years and now holds the title of Vice President, Interior Design. In this role, she is responsible for ensuring all indoor space projects are functional, safe, and beautiful for her clients, while also managing and assisting the interior design group with any projects they may be working on. Her experience in the field and passion for what she does make her a core part of our team.
Throughout her career, Carrie has had the opportunity to work on a number of interesting and impactful projects. Some of her favorites include the Delaware Area Career Career and the Winton Woods campus. But her favorite part of the job is the opportunity she has to be a mentor and a leader for budding professionals.
“Mentoring younger designers and being a resource for them has always been a highlight in my career,” said Carrie. “I love when they come to me with issues they are having because it’s a learning opportunity for both of us!”
If Carrie were to give all of her up-and-coming designers one piece of advice, it would be this: “Learn from everyone around you. Don’t ever stop learning! Once you do that, you’ve lost.”
At the end of her career, Carrie hopes to have left her mark on the interior design industry and the people she works with every day. She wants to look back over all the facilities she had a hand in designing and reminisce about the successes and the relationships she has made with her colleagues and clients. But most importantly, she wants to look back and remember all the fun she’s had!
And that leads us to the “play” aspect of her approach to life!
In her spare time, Carrie loves to spend time with her friends and family, especially her amazing nieces and nephews. She also enjoys going out on the town with her husband. Basically, if it involves socializing with other people, this social butterfly will be there with bells on, as evidenced by the group shot below.
