SHP Takes Home Two Cincinnati Design Awards for Interior Architecture, Community Planning

SHP, a leading architecture, interior design and engineering firm, is thrilled to announce that two of its projects were recognized at this year’s Cincinnati Design Awards.

The Cincinnati Design Awards program recognizes the best built-environment design produced by creative firms in the Cincinnati area. Each year, a jury of design thought leaders and eminent practitioners from around the country selects winning projects that make environments more functional, beautiful and inspiring for all.

This year, SHP won a Merit Award for Large Scale Interior Architecture for the firm’s work on Curiosity’s new headquarters, as well as an Honorable Mention in Landscape Architecture & Community Planning – Planning & Analysis for the Plinth Art Park.

“Winning two honors at this year’s Cincinnati Design Awards is a tremendous recognition for everyone at SHP,” said Jeffrey Sackenheim, CEO of SHP. “Both the Curiosity headquarters and the Plinth Art Park capture what our firm strives to achieve with every project: to design environments that spark imagination, foster community, and elevate the everyday experiences of the people who use them.”

SHP designed the new headquarters for Cincinnati-based creative agency Curiosity within the former Chatfield College buildings in Over-the-Rhine. Inspired by the unexpected, the design embraces minimalist curves juxtaposed with existing building infrastructure. The building, which was completed in 2024, features a bespoke millwork cabinet, vintage art and furniture, and a focal stair feature that appears as an abstract question mark. SHP worked closely with Carey Warman, an interior designer based in Cincinnati.

Meanwhile, the Plinth Art Park near Hauck Gardens in Avondale was conceived as a large-scale, immersive experience of public art for a carefully curated group of local and international artists. Responding to the site’s natural topography and accessible circulation patterns, the art park features an array of terraces that become plinths to showcase artwork, as well as a multi-purpose shelter and trellised outdoor plaza.

“We’re proud to share these awards with our clients, partners, and the broader design community,” Sackenheim said. “They are a testament to what can happen when teams come together around a shared vision of making our communities more engaging, inclusive, and inspiring. Recognition like this motivates us to keep shaping environments that make a lasting difference–especially as SHP enters its 125th year of operation.”

SHP was recognized alongside other honorees at the Cincinnati Design Awards event at Memorial Hall on Friday, Nov. 7.
