If the world is a stage, then senior project manager David Powell is the right man to build it. With over 25 years of experience, David has held a wide variety of positions within the AEC industry. Now, in addition to traditional architectural and project management tasks, he works to infuse our Columbus office with the same entrepreneurial and innovative spirit he’s learned throughout his career. But what he enjoys most is the difference he is able to make in the educational commissions he’s been involved with.David Powell, SHP

“I truly enjoy working on education projects, especially those that recognize the changes in how children are learning,” said David.  “If my work can help a student learn more effectively, I have done my job well.”

A strong advocate of lifelong learning, David strives daily to realize that every day is a chance to learn something new, and once you do, share it with others. And he did not disappoint.

In 2016, David had the opportunity to lead an environmentally conscious building addition project for a high-performing school client near Chicago. The result was a net-zero-energy-rated, LEED platinum-certified building. The school was also certified by the International Living Futures Institute as a living architecture performance tool.

“This client had the instinct and courage to push boundaries of sustainability initiatives, and as a result, the students utilize the building in their studies to directly experience biology, ecology, environmental awareness, physics,” said David. “Seeing students learn by experiencing this building was truly inspiring.

David’s passion for the architecture industry is unmatched and unwavering, which is demonstrated not only through his work, but also through his words.

“The profession has given me so much over the years,” said David. “I can only hope that I’ve given back more than I have received.”

When not busy at work, his number one priority is his family. Whether watching sports with his sons or getting his wife on the set of her favorite news station (as pictured at left), spending time with those close to him is an essential part of life for David. He also enjoys hiking, golfing, home improvement projects, cooking, and Ohio State football!
