“Strive to grow and be better each day.” These are the words that mechanical engineer Clayton Milner lives by. It’s quite a professional mantra for someone so early in his career!
Clayton has been in the engineering department at SHP since January 2019, where he was a part of our co-op program for one year. Since then, he has been hired full-time and has the daily responsibilities of designing and engineering domestic water systems and sanitary systems for various buildings. He also sizes and selects various plumbing equipment and uses REVIT to lay out the plumbing system.
“My favorite part of the job is that I get to continuously learn and work on becoming a better engineer day by day,” said Clayton. “I also get to work on buildings that influence other people’s lives, which is extremely rewarding as well.”
Clayton has accomplished a great deal in his young career. His favorite project—so far—was the E.H. Greene Intermediate School in Sycamore, which was the first time he designed an entire building’s plumbing system.
“Clayton is a smart man with a bright future,” said senior mechanical engineer Ron Cobb. “I look forward to working with him for many years to come, and I am excited to see where he goes.”
At the end of his career, Clayton hopes he can look back and see that he was a leader in the field of architecture and that he can make a difference in the lives of people who need his help the most.
In his free time, Clayton likes to go to the gym, go fishing—as you can see from this recent photo!—hike, travel, and spend time with friends and family.
