There’s No Such Thing As Bad Weather, Only Bad Gear:

Flipping the Outdoor Classroom Paradigm

2020 accelerated demand for and fundamentally shifted how schools think about outdoor learning.

Ed Melvin (landscape architect) and John Noble (project architect) propose a session that will explore administrative, philosophical, pedagogical, curricular and physical considerations of outdoor ed at every level, pre-K through college. We’ll present prototypes—informed by actual experience and current reality—that flip the “bring the outdoors in” paradigm, including hybrid threshold classrooms that enable year-round outdoor learning, no matter the weather.
