SHP’s work on Rockwern included master planning, programming and design of learn/play sites for two distinct age groups: early childhood and K-8. The Center saw a total renovation of two playgrounds into learning-focused outdoor spaces, including a sensory garden, water and sand areas, and space for motor skill activities, such as the basketball court and other social gathering sports.

"SHP developed two design concepts: one organized around the concept of community and the other focused on the things that happen along a story path. We were able to incorporate both of these concepts as two different spaces: one for 2-to-4-year-olds and another for 4-to-5-year-olds."
