Future-Ready CTE School Design: Inside the DACC Campus

Delivering a school design for career technical education (CTE) that reflects and elevates a community’s educational investment is a challenging assignment, and a noble one. To achieve its vision, the Delaware Area Career Center (DACC) partnered with SHP.

When asked to reflect on her work designing the 220,000-square-foot CTE school in mid-Ohio for DACC, Vice President of Architecture Brandi Ash put it like this:

“I really enjoy the design of career technical schools because of the extra level of complexity that is required to understand the specific needs for each of the different spaces. In order to design these spaces, we have to listen carefully and understand what all of the different programs need to support them. It’s fascinating, because I’m always learning something new.”

With SHP as its partner, DACC underwent a massive renovation and major addition from 2016 to 2019. The $43 million project consolidated two campuses into one, resulting in an innovative, future-focused space that proactively addresses the rapidly changing needs of the traditional high school curriculum, specialized career and technical programs, and community-driven adult education that define work-integrated learning.
