Employee Spotlight: Jennie Markel, Landscape Designer
Hardworking, dependable, multitasker, good with people, strong designer.
While the majority of our team works with manmade resources, landscape designer Jennie Markel uses plants, grasses, and other living materials to create beautiful, functional and sustainable spaces for our clients.
Armed with a powerful combination of architectural precision and horticultural passion (and a degree from DAAP), Jennie believes in the power of landscape design as a way to connect people with nature in their everyday lives. Since joining SHP in 2024, she’s helped design and produce stunning environments that incorporate natural elements into the manmade world. She particularly enjoys the dynamic nature of her work and how her designs will continue to grow and change with the seasons.
Jennie is also passionate about cultivating an appreciation of the natural world among younger generations. “If I can be a part of the movement to create more and more natural green space in our schools for children to experience on a daily basis, I would be satisfied,” she says.
Outside of the office, Jennie is (unsurprisingly!) still all about the outdoors. You can often find her running, walking with her dogs, gardening, or spending time with her family.
