Employee Spotlight: Mike Domek, Senior Project Architect

Calm, Prepared, Funny, Helpful, Teammate.

To Mike Domek, “community” isn’t just a word – it’s the center of everything he does.

“When looking back on my career, I want to be able to say we used our skills as designers to make a positive impact on our community,” Mike says.

Mike carries this community-centered mentality in SHP’s Columbus office. As a senior project architect leading our dedicated team, Mike navigates the intricate design process with finesse, ensuring our clients’ visions are realized from conception to completion. His collaborative approach fosters seamless communication with contractors, resulting in the successful delivery of projects that exceed expectations.

While Mike’s days are filled with creative pursuits, it’s the pursuit of perfection that occasionally keeps him burning the midnight oil. Yet, with his trademark calm demeanor and dedication, he ensures every detail is meticulously crafted, from initial concept presentations to final punch lists.

How does Mike get it all done? “Be humble, curious, empathetic, and driven,” says Mike. These are not easy words to live up to daily, but Mike makes it happen.

For Mike’s dedication to bettering the world around him, the proof is in the pudding. His work with a Chicago non-profit holds a special place in his heart. He collaborated on a project that combined a unique program of classrooms and squash courts, benefiting hundreds of students through academic and athletic enrichment. Mike’s work transformed this non-profit from a building to an anchor in the community.

“There are thousands of remarkable buildings and spaces that don't make the cover page, and those spaces are equally worthwhile to explore, observe, and experience.”
