Employee Spotlight: Dan Behnfeldt, Senior Project Architect

“Although there are many friends in the office who are much more musically talented than I, trying to develop a skill toward making music is something that compliments the work we do as people who strive to make wonderful buildings and spaces. Music and architecture are symbiotic disciplines.”

Here at SHP, we pride ourselves on generating creative solutions to complicated problems and the dedication we have to make our community a better place. This certainly holds for Dan Behnfeldt. Dan has been a senior project architect with us since 2018 and is primarily responsible for the technical aspects of making sure projects proceed with the vision and design intent in mind and that the clients are elated with the results.

“I love my job because I know that every day will always be different, that I’ll continue to learn new things and have new experiences all along the way,” said Dan. “I can rest easy knowing we as a team will work through any issue resulting in a positive outcome even when there does not initially appear to be a good solution.”

Before joining the SHP Team, Dan, a LEED Accredited Professional and licensed architect spent several years gaining knowledge and experience that has well-prepared him for the position he currently holds. Now, he has established himself as one of our most valuable team members and has even led some of our most unforgettable projects, such as the new Green Local PK-12, Edison Local Fieldhouse, and the SLSD Jr School.

“My intentions are always good.”

At the end of the day, when he looks back on his career at SHP, Dan hopes to see the relationships he’s built here are stronger than ever and that he was able to pass on to our younger colleagues the wisdom and calm temperament he has gained along the way.

“I hope that anyone I have worked with has enjoyed working with me and that there has been a reciprocal relationship of sharing knowledge, success, and humor,” says Dan. “Hopefully, I’ve done my best to balance and maintain personal and professional responsibilities.”

When he isn’t hard at work, though, Dan and his wife Brooke, enjoy spending time with their four sons, as they learn and grow alongside him, often on long-distance athletic excursions.
