Employee Spotlight: Samuel Tibbs, Project Designer

“I believe that as creative professionals, our work is in service to the enrichment of our world,” says Samuel Tibbs. “Our designs should create equity in communities and advance a lifetime commitment to learning.”

Lifelong learning is one of SHP’s most cherished values, so it’s no surprise it’s also a priority for Samuel, an impassioned, brilliant project designer for SHP. Samuel entered this field with one goal in mind: to enhance the lives of the communities he holds dear. 

In his current role, Samuel’s primary responsibilities are to manage, coordinate, communicate, and execute SHP’s design vision throughout our various BIM, digital and virtual formats. To do this effectively requires a thorough awareness of every aspect of the project scope, client ambitions and aesthetic vision. 

But he loves his chosen profession because of the challenge it produces. He is forced to ask and answer tough questions, which have molded him into the professional he is today. 

“Utilizing broad awareness of the project state, to turn multiple ‘problems’ into a cohesive solution is one of the most rewarding parts of my job,” said Samuel. “I think an important characteristic is the willingness to ask questions and take on challenges while learning from those with valuable experience.” 

At the end of his career, Samuel hopes to look back and know he explored his creative interests and expanded on his technological, programming, and modeling skill sets. He also hopes to have left a positive impact on SHP and the industry as a whole. 

When he’s not in the office, Samuel likes to let his imagination run wild, because to him, that’s the best way to prepare for the future. 

“I enjoy the telling and consumption of visual and interactive stories, watching and critiquing films, traveling and taking photographs, as well as playing story-driven and immersive video games with friends and family,” says Samuel. “Ultimately, these outlets are all a means for my mind to learn, wonder, and explore.
